A saguaro cactus takes up to 100 years to grow its first arm. When you see one that has developed into a beautiful multi-armed wonder, take comfort in knowing it has outlived all the world's tragedies. It has survived and put in its past WW2, WW1, Napoleon, the American Revolution and more. It grows in a desert struggling with no water for most of the year yet it soldiers on eternally. It is truly the embodiment of survival and endurance!
Yet even this great survivor has a period in its life where it cannot survive on its own. It can only grow under the protection of a mesquite tree, shaded from the harsh sun, and nourished by the water drawn up from the tree's deep roots. The eternal strength of the cactus eventually outlives the tree and takes its proper place in sun!
Just consider me your mesquite tree.
